A Perfect Holiday in Seminyak, Bali

Published on August 29, 2013,

SEMINYAK, Bali is quiet enough to be relaxing, cosmopolitan enough for the cappuccino crowd and central enough to be a great launch pad for the sights of Bali.

It caters to the sophisticated traveler, with a selection of great hotels, staffed villas, bars and restaurants to rival those at home and a retail strip best explored by foot

seminyak-beach-bali

Planning a weekend in Bali? Then look further than the tourist magnet of Kuta Beach, which has suffered from the easy access that its location near the airport affords. Instead, spend a few more minutes in the taxi and head for Seminyak. This seafront town easily charms with its laid-back vibe and great restaurants. Here’s our itinerary for the perfect Seminyak break.

Seminyak leads southern Bali in terms of style. It overflows with fashionable restaurants and lounges backed by exclusive five-star resorts. This sophisticated community lights up after hours, when tourists from across Southern Bali show up for the world-renowned club scene. The Honorary Consulate of Brazil is also here.

By day, Seminyak Beach is quiet and relaxed. Anyone based in Seminyak accommodation can spend the day sunbathing or exploring the community’s first-rate art galleries. Seminyak has plenty of excellent options for lunch & Dinner, too, including Gado Gado, Métis, Sarong, La luciola, Potato Head and many others. Daytime activities range from horseback riding on the beach to surfing.

Trendy boutiques are popular by day. Beachwear and high fashion abound, with plenty of locally designed clothing and accessories in the mix. Handicrafts also flourish – especially batik. It would take days of shopping to look through every boutique in Seminyak.

In the evening, an exclusive atmosphere settles in. Gourmet French cuisine prevails in acclaimed fine-dining restaurants including the Living Room and Kafe Warison, but there are plenty of other options. Khaima features Moroccan fare and belly dancers, while Bracio serves tapas. Ultra-hip champagne and cigar bars like Kudeta, Potato Head and Hu’ui are perfect for after-dinner drinks.

And then the nightlife picks up. Luxury hotels in Seminyak host elegant lounges and clubs where well-dressed dancers convene on a nightly basis. Seminyak has a niche for every brand of party-goer, with everything from salsa to techno.

UNDERPASSES, TOLL ROADS & AIRPORTS

Underpass
Exciting news is that the long awaited underpass, Bali’s first, at the Dewa Ruci monument, commonly referred to as
Simpang Siur, is finally open! This is truly a monumental achievement to help with Bali’s traffic congestion. Road users driving west were pleasantly surprised recently when without any advance warning, one lane of the underpass was open for traffic. Now the mandatory ceremonies to safeguard the tunnel and its users have been completed. We all eagerly anticipate the opening of Bali’s first toll road, linking Nusa Dua – Airport – Benoa, hopefully next month. And spanking new airport terminals before the APEC Summit will add the icing on the cake!

NYEPI – BALI’S DAY OF SILENCE

melasti 8My first ever visit to Bali was in March 1978. Unknown to me it was Nyepi. With no hotel booking and so it seemed, nobody around, it took some creative thinking to find myself accommodation. 35 years later it would not be possible to arrive in Bali on Nyepi, either by air, road or sea!

The Balinese have tightened up restrictions on their very sacred “Day of Silence” and the airport, seaports and road links are closed for business on this day of the New Year in the Balinese calendar. A friend once remarked, at Nyepi even the dogs do not bark, a truism as no sounds disturb the peace. Experience Nyepi with our special Silent day Package…

This year, the Balinese Caka New Year will be celebrated on Tuesday 12th of March.
